\nThe first cartoon, \u201cWhat the United States Has Fought For,\u201d shows the power and influence of the United States to help oppressed countries. The top line shows the poor \u201cconditions\u201d of people of these countries. The bottom line shows the huge improvement in the same people\u2019s lives after the US steps in and rescues them -- imperialism. The cartoon exaggerates the change in lifestyle for these countries.

\nCaroline also has a very good point. Like most political cartoons, it focuses on one point or opinion. It doesn\u2019t show the other side of the debate. The cartoon is from the point of view that the US gets a \u201cpat on the back\u201d for helping these territories. Some countries viewed the US intervention and imperialism as interfering and as a way to acquire more territories.
